A Breath of Fresh Air

Spring is in the air here at Geekenhaven... the windows are open and that's good because we've got some heady fumes coming out of this place right now!

What's that? Well TDAWG is busy pouring molds and casting a brand new series of refrigerator magnets, painting up a batch of hand-sculpted "sweet leaf" pendants and I'm just lost in a cloud of Monster Kolor aerosols, finishing up some sofubi that's been on the WIP shelf for too long.

You may notice a slightly new look to the blog, and that's probably just for starters. We're working toward a more unified approach to our online presence, and that means regularly stocking our new online store at Etsy with new custom creations.

The first batch of goodies will be available tomorrow afternoon by 4:20pm EST, with all the goodies I just mentioned, several Glyos customs, and even some of the very last 2013 Sickophants painted by yours truly!

NYCC is upon us!!!

Geekenhaven will be at NYCC for the first time this year. In addition to a number of custom pieces, we're also bringing two different resin exclusives. The will both be available each day at Booth 401 in The Block.

The first is our Sickophant. This chunky little bastard is over 2 inches tall, almost 3 inches across, and he'll look just disgustingly cool on your shelf or holding down a stack of Garbage Pail Kids trading cards. There will be solid pink and clear green versions, with various colored paint rubs and a couple of fully painted customs by each of us. The Sickophant was sculpted and cast by Steven Patt of Papagrim Toys based on a design by WolverineBurger. Price is $25 for paint rubs and $40 for customs.

The other surprise we have for you all is a collection of 4 different Glyos-compatible resin heads. "Cry of the Echosphere" is just the beginning of our fun little addition to the ever expanding Glyos Universe and we'll be revealing much more behind the story and our plans for the line with another major release after NYCC.

For now, we'll have a handful of single test shots available each day in a variety of colors, and as with the Sickophant, a small number of fully built and painted customs by each of us. These were sculpted by TDAWG and cast by Imagination Asylum. There aren't many to go around for now, so we'll only be releasing about 7-8 single heads per day. Price is $8 each or $30 for a full set.

Be sure to get there early!

I don't even...

Where to begin?!? It's hard to believe, but it's been a year since this blog was updated. Some stuff has changed, but we're still going stronger than ever. In fact, we're going to be at NYCC, at Booth 401 in The Block, right near Onell Design and Grass Hut Corp. We'll be sharing the space with Imagination Asylum and Doom Kick/Rampageo Industries. I cannot tell you how excited we are to be pushing custom toys alongside these great folks!

"Cry of the Echosphere" prototypes
In addition to customs - we've been working on a couple resin projects that will finally get premiered at the con. The first is our "Cry of the Echosphere" resin Glyos-compatible heads. These four pieces (only 3 shown here) were sculpted by TDAWG and cast by Imagination Asylum, they will be available in a variety of colors - as singles or in sets.

The Sickophant
The other project that you may have seen floating around already (its been a long time in the works) is the official Geekenhaven Sickophant. We'll have several different versions of this chunky resin piece on hand, sculpted and cast by Steve Patt of Papagrim Toys. Think of him as the Geekenhaven mascot.

In other news, The Elephant Nosebleed zine has been put on a hiatus, maybe permanently. It just wasn't coming together and we decided that it wasn't the right time. For now we would like to focus on toys. I hope some of you can come down to NYCC October 10-13 and join us!

Fall Update

TDAWG's "Grim Squad Zombidoc" for Vinyl Thoughts 3
Another 6 months or so, another update on this neglected blog. All of the excitement has been over at our Facebook page, with over 100 likes and new ones every day. TDAWG and I have been working on a lot of projects, with several pieces going to shows in the last few months, such as Vinyl Thoughts 3 and The Grody Shogun mashup show.

We have also changed stores again, to Etsy this time, and I think we're there to stay. Seems like a good fit.

The Elephant Nosebleed zine and figures are still in the works. Probably by the end of the year. Big stuff happening. I want to try and keep this blog at least somewhat updated, since we are doing more now and not everyone is on Facebook. - WolverineBurger

Still?

After several weeks of trying to find a new host for the store, I ended up going back to BigCartel, but upgraded to the $10/month plan so we could have more inventory, pics, tracking, etc. I put a couple customs in last night to get it rolling, one of which sold in about 3 minutes!

The link is over there on the right, we are working on some buttons to make navigation a bit classier, or at least intersting.

From here on out, you are gonna see customs from both me and TDAWG on a near-weekly basis, and don't forget we are still working on the Elephant Nosebleed zine and the companion resin figure. Steve has sent us some WIP shots, and you can see it's lookin' gnarly!

Submissions are still open for the zine, though pasting has already begun. We are still grinding out our video for the Kickstarter campaign, expecting to launch it sometime before the end of the month.

If you are interested in getting us virtually ANY kind of writing or art for this wild free-for-all of a basement publication, send an email to WolverineBurger@gmail.com or check out the zine's Facebook page and hit me up there.

We're back, baby!

Winter was slow-going for us at Geekenhaven. We participated in a couple of shows including the phenomenal OSM Show at Toypocalypse 2, did a few customs, but other than that... we have been quiet.

That is about to change with the launch of our zine Elephant Nosebleed and the release of a resin figure to go along with it. The figure is being sculpted and cast by Steve Patt of Papagrimtoys.com and you can expect to see more news of this very soon.

There will be a Kickstarter campaign to help get the zine off the ground, which you will also hear more about in the coming days before the launch.

And lastly, we are trying to find a new host for the store, BigCartel wasn't cutting it. Once we do, we are going to start feeding it customs and other artistic mishaps every week or so. 2012 is indeed going to be a big year for Geekenhaven Studios.
